The Pencil Museum

Who would have thought it? But lead was first discovered in the fells surrounding Keswick, and we have had the Pencil Factory producing the high quality pencils Derwent Pencils The factory has moved out of town but the museum is fortunately still here.

I have spent many rainy days in the Pencil Museum with my daughter, and although it is small it has a lovely atmosphere, thanks to the staff who are always very friendly: they will give your children puzzles to solve when you go to explore the world of pencils.

Afterwards you can browse the tempting shop for colour pencils, paper, books, watercolours, or you and the kids can do a bit of drawing yourself in the cafe. The food is homemade and the coffees good too.

Kate and I can definitely recommend it!
